FAQs:

Q: Where do I get distilled water?

A: In the United States you can usually find distilled water in grocery stores, big box stores, and pharmacies. In other countries, including Costa Rica, you can find distilled water at the gas station (it is used in car batteries) or in pharmacies. You also can purchase a water distiller for your home. We use a model similar to this stainless steal distiller with glass pot catchment on Amazon.

Q: Where can I buy sodium hydroxide (lye)?

A: We do not ship sodium hydroxide as it can cause shipping delays. We recommend one of these products found on Amazon:  1lb jar Sodium Hydroxide or This 2lb Jar of Sodium Hydroxide. 2 rounded Tablespoons of this specific product equals 50g which is the amount you need for the solution inside your machine. This bottle will last you a while. You can also purchase sodium hydroxide from stores that carry soapmaking supplies, or some specialty food shops. Please note that sodium hydroxide can differ in volume to weight so the best practice is to weigh your sodium hydroxide with a kitchen scale that measures grams. You will need 50 grams of lye to make the solution.

Q: How often should I replace my cannula and where can I get them?

A: There is no firm rule on how often you should replace your cannula. After using it for a while the tubing will become stiff, this is a good time to replace it. You can either buy more cannulas from our online shop, or you can use most standard cannulas available online or in medical supply stores.
